Senseless lockdowns, general states of agitation, psycho-physical fatigue… there are many ways in which stress manifests itself and irremediably affects health. In fact, it isn’t just a “simple” emotional state, but a real general malaise that most often causes pain and ailments in the limbs, intestines and skin.
How do you know how to read these alarm bells? And above all how to find serenity for general health and well-being of the body, but also of the mind? Today thanks to Notino we will find out together.

Joints, Intestine and Skin: How Does the Body React Under Stress?
-
Joints
The tingling of joints, in addition to being caused by poor posture or inactivity, can also be linked to a high level of stress. What’s happening? The brain responds to this nerve load by stimulating the adrenal glands that produce hormones such as adrenaline, this acts on the receptors of the heart and blood vessels by drawing more blood to the heart and removing it from the skin and thus causes tingling. This hormone in fact determines the vasoconstriction of some areas to give precedence to the muscular system.
-
Intestine
We also talked about the intestine, a rather common alternative in the face of severe periods of stress, but what happens in detail? An alternation of the intestinal microbiota that affects the natural processes of digestion, intestinal regularity, but also the immune system.
Intestine and brain are in fact interrelated and to rebalance the alternating microbiota there is nothing better than to act on the diet by eating foods rich in fiber, but also yogurt and doing sports or physical activity regularly.

Skin
The main organ of the human body, as well as perhaps the most important, is severely tested by stress and in this case it must also be said by Covid-19. Not only has this virus increased neurosis and emotional, and therefore physical, instability in people, but it also negatively affected skin care. Frequent washing, and often excessive if done more than recommended, can damage the only defense you have against external agents.
Numerous dermatological diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, vitiligo, urticaria and seborrheic dermatitis are in fact most often caused by these two factors that contribute to skin inflammation through a modulation of the hypothalamus-i-pophyseal axis and the release of chemical mediators by nerve endings and mast cells.
Herbal Teas, Candles and Relaxation
Faced with this load of stress, how can we fight it and find peace of mind? Certainly many tips considered “trivial” already do 90% of the work. Walking, preferably in nature, brings important benefits to intellectual abilities and releases tension from accessing multi-tasking, but taking the right supplements is also important. To all this we can add small home activities that can significantly contribute to developing a psycho-physical wellness routine.
The ASMR, more and more famous lately, are the primary source that can be accessed. These videos propose sounds that are nothing more than “white noises” that have the ability to “mask” the frequencies of inconstant noises from the brain. This inevitably causes the waves to celebrate them to relax and consequently the breath becomes deeper and the pulsations slower. All this therefore creates a state of complete serenity and relaxation that starts from the head and reaches the body.
So what’s better than indulging in these sounds perhaps sipping a good herbal tea? Better if relaxing and based on a blend of hawthorn, lavender, lime, chamomile and lemon balm in equal parts.
But how to complete this picture? With the right candles. In fact, aromatherapy has the great ability, through the sense of smell, to stimulate states of emotion and creativity in the person.
How to immerse yourself in this SPA ritual for the mind and soul? Thanks to Yankee Candle Magical Christmas Morning, 13 fragrances suitable for every situation, thought and feeling.
Detox Day: Outside and Inside
After talking about how to seek relaxation on a mental level, it’s fair to say that everything can have excellent results also on a physical level if accompanied by the right diet (we also referred to this at the beginning of the article).
In this case, chromotherapy comes to the rescue that combines the external well-being of the body with the internal one.
For the external part I rely on I love … Lots of Bubbles, 6 delicious fragrances for baths that are as special as they are relaxed. And who knows maybe they can be made even more special by combining some of the candles mentioned above to create the right atmosphere!
However, the colors of these bubble baths are not random, because each of them also matches a group of foods which, based on the colors, help to renew the immune system.

Essential oils have a direct effect on the parts of the brain that control anxiety and stress, and exposure decreases the heart rate and blood pressure allowing a person to relax. Great post

A walk in nature and a cup of hot chai tea do the trick for me. However once in a while, I like to light a candle and read a book, the most important thing is to find time for me to unwind.

Thanks for commenting on the physical effects of stress! Aromatherapy tends to really help me which is why my home is full of candles and lotions and smelly good soaps. I’ve also been moving more slowly and trying to take stock of how I’m feeling psychologically and physically.

Aromatherapy is such a good idea I wish they would have been around 23 years ago for my mother with her chemo. However I am not sure how scents would have worked for her since everything made her so nauseous, but it would have certainly been worth a try.

It’s hard not to be a tad bit stressed this time of year. Tea definitely helps, but I’m going to try incorporating a few of things like candles you mentioned here.
